To the listed building we added two discreet new mansard roofs above the east and west bays of the main facade, based on an interpretation of other Dixon Butler buildings of this age, importance and genre. The distinctive courtroom number one was converted into a bar. We retained much of its internal timberwork and other original features, including a reinstated grand clerestory roof light.
The cell blocks to the rear were redeveloped with a contemporary extension inspired by the composition and materiality of Dixon Butler’s architecture. Some of the original holding cells were restored and reintegrated inside the new restaurant and delicatessen.
