Dexter Moren Associates (DMA) is delighted to announce that planning has been granted for a new 412 room hotel at Manchester airport. The new 12,300sq m development, designed by DMA, will be operated by Tribe, a brand owned by world-leading augmented hospitality group Accor, and will be the first Tribe hotel in England and only the second in the UK.
The nine-storey hotel will feature four restaurant and bar areas, working spaces, a gym and a crew lounge for airline staff travelling through Manchester, the UK’s third busiest airport. The development is part of Airport City Manchester, a Joint Venture between Manchester Airport, Beijing Construction and Engineering Group International and Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
As the hotel will be surrounded by other hotels in a “hotel district”, DMA’s design has been conceived to create a distinct and identifiable character within the Airport City Manchester masterplan and will comprise a two-tone metal-clad woven facade and vibrantly and variably coloured window frames.
Bryan Oknyansky, Designer at DMA said: “The design-led spirit of the Tribe brand called for a vibrant addition to Airport City. We are proud to have led the design team in collaboration with Accor and MAG to design a uniquely identifiable hotel, with both local and global appeal in step with the evolving demands of a travelling lifestyle.”
Dexter Moren, Partner at DMA added: “We are delighted to be working with H3 Hotels S.à.r.l., Accor and MAG to deliver a landmark building establishing a new gateway to Manchester airport. The design for Tribe Manchester aims to give the hotel a distinct urban identity within the Airport City Manchester masterplan, bringing a youthful energy with bold colour, contemporary architecture and materials.”
The Tribe brand was first launched in Perth, Australia, and aims to surprise travellers with an original, exciting and carefully curated offer that focuses on style rather than price, making it a leader in the design-led affordable luxury sector.
Announcing the new Tribe hotel at Manchester Airport, Philip Lassman, VP Development, Accor Northern Europe said: “We believe that the Tribe brand has huge potential in the UK. The combination of design, art and smart service delivers an exceptional feeling of quality while still providing travellers with great value. Designed to enable guests to live, work and play in contemporary interiors, the new Tribe hotel will appeal to a wide of range of travelers from the UK and international guests flying in to Manchester.”
Construction of the new-build hotel is scheduled for later this year (subject to COVID-19 considerations), with the development expected to take two years to complete.
