Dexter Moren Associates is delighted to announce that planning approval has been secured for three significant hotel projects this month; the 200 bed Gatwick Marriot for Kew Green Hotels, Sutton Etap for Criterion and Capitol and the Express Holiday Inn at London Colney for Splendid Hotels. The projects are now being taken through to detailed design.
The recent design success of DMA has been further boosted with the practice securing planning consent for three significant hotel projects in the past three weeks: a new 220 bed Marriott Hotel at BAA’s Gatwick Airport, the Sutton Etap Hotel in the heart of Sutton Town Centre, and the Express Holiday Inn at London Colney.
“We are delighted that we’ve been given the go ahead for these significant hotel projects, as we have worked hard on developing a design for each that encompasses an innovative, sustainable solution,” said Dexter Moren, Director of DMA.
Marriott Hotel, Gatwick
Located adjacent to a Grade 2 heritage listed 16th Century cottage, the new 220 bed Gatwick Marriott Hotel will be linked to the heritage listed buildings via a glazed ‘colonnade’ and landscaped courtyard.
The planning committee, who praised the scheme as creating a dramatic juxtaposition between the old and the new, reached a unanimous decision last week. “This is a clearly contemporary design, rather than a pastiche to draw a clear difference between the two structures,” they said.
A double volume glazed facade will front the listed buildings, accommodating the restaurant and lobby. The hotel rooms will be stepped back with a dappled green panel facade to integrate into the surrounding environment.
The project is expected to start on site in June this year.
Sutton Etap Hotel
The 100 bedroom Sutton Etap Hotel will sit atop a five level carpark and existing cinema complex in the heart of Sutton town centre. Designed for Golfrate’s Criterion Capitol, the ‘silver box’ scheme will be wrapped in zinc. DMA are also working with Golfrate on the 600 bed Ibis Hotel at London’s Trocadero.
Express Holiday Inn, London Colney
Following a successful appeal, DMA has secured planning permission for a new Holiday Inn adjacent to the slip road of Junction 22 on the M25. The new hotel will feature a ‘U’ shaped plan, creating a welcoming courtyard entrance and acting as a barrier to the M25. Extensive landscaping will also assist in integrating into the adjoining green belt.
