The Great Northern Hotel
This signature building was one of the first examples of the great railway hotels built at the height of the Victorian era. It was designed to an Italianate style with classical details and has been in continuous use for almost 150 years up until its closure in 2001, in advance of works taking place at the Kings Cross Underground Station. The 19th Century Grade II listed hotel has an abundance of charm, evoking quintessential British style and the halcyon days of travel. In recent times the hotel’s glamour has faded somewhat, but it is now set to become chic and elegant once more as the gateway into King’s Cross Central and to Europe via St Pancras International.
DMA has been appointed as lead architect and are currently acting on behalf of client RAM, to restore and redevelop the Great Northern as a luxury boutique hotel at King’s Cross Central. The new hotel will comprise 92 luxury bedrooms, a bar and restaurant, and is set to open in 2012.
