Coral Beach Resort, Thailand

Situated on a secluded headland next to the popular Patong Beach in Phuket, the Amari Coral Beach Resort in Thailand features panoramic sea views and a private beach.  DMA is working with Amari to expand and refurbish the resort, which will provide  an additional 80 luxury rooms, a new feature restaurant and lounge facility, along with remodelling of the existing restaurants.

Our design solution proposes a series of individual tower clusters that nestle into the tropical hillside, each accommodating six units with sea views. The towers house two bedrooms per floor to allow each room to benefit from a corner location and surrounding balcony. Rooms are enclosed with glass slide-away doors and the balcony with folding shade shutters so as to provide a variety of individual guest options in respect of temperature control and privacy. The clusters introduce ‘butterfly’ roofs - a contemporary take on the traditional thatched roofs - and are designed to collect water and discreetly house solar panels. A selection of indigenous materials such as native timber and local stone will be used to blend into the natural environment.

A new lounge and bar provides guests with a place to unwind after their flight or relax prior to departure, and is linked to a feature ‘grazing’ restaurant. The footprint is layered to the contours of the land and gives panoramic views to diners on every level. Our team will work with a local design practice to deliver the scheme on site.
