DMA developed a master-plan to optimize public spaces and hotel bedrooms within the envelope of the Grade II listed Beaumont House. This was divided into four key phases.
Much of the property was underutilized and the four phase development started with the conversion of annex buildings such as the old dairy into meeting and conference space followed by the creation of bedrooms in older wings of the complex.
At the heart of the complex was a very narrow suite of first floor meeting rooms with redundant computer rooms beneath. On the lifting of a suspended ceiling tile, it was discovered to be the original school chapel, complete with reredos, stained glass oriel window and hand painted vaulted ceiling. It was hidden but intact, though savagely divided by a new floor. It was quickly decided to restore and reinstate this unique space to its original splendour as the grand feature of the new hotel.
The following phases involved developing and rolling out a new bedroom model and adapting this to the particularities of the existing building, working with historic buildings advisor, Alan Baxter Associates and the local conservation officer.
The overall result is the development of one of the most unique hotel & conference venues in the South of England.
