
23.10.08 DMA ventures to the Gulf
DMA kicked off its first project in Abu Dhabi this week for Aldar Properties and the Accor Group. Located at Yas Island, a world class leisure and sporting destination, DMA has been appointed to design the exterior and interior components for two new hotels, associated leisure facilities, and serviced apartments. The practice is currently taking steps to set up an office in the Gulf and will relocate a team in January to deliver the schemes.

20.10.08 Spotted Dog, Willesden
Dexter Moren Associates, on behalf of Brentview Ltd, has received planning consent for a new mixed use scheme in Brent.
Located within a conservation area along the High Road in Willesden, the development will provide a 5-storey building accommodating 44 apartments, a retail unit and importantly will retain and "celebrate" the 1762 "Spotted Dog" public house

03.10.08 People. Projects. Progress
DMA celebrated the opening of its first solo exhibition on Wednesday 1st October at the Dreamspace Gallery in London with a record turnout. DMA's debut exhibition provided a selection of built and pending work in architecture, interior design and urban design, along with an insight into the people and culture that makes DMA unique. The exhibition will be running from 29th September until 17th October 2008.

01.07.08 Sustainable Hotel for Heathrow
Dexter Moren Associates submitted plans for their most sustainably designed hotel to date into Hillingdon Council last week.
A key feature of the hotel is its double skin facade which will enable passive solar control and acoustic protection from its location under the flight paths. Louvers strategically placed to relate to the sun paths will be utilised to minimise heat gain and reduce the demand on air conditioning.

27.06.08 New Appointments
Reflecting the growth and diversification of Dexter Moren Associates over the past year, the practice is delighted to announce the appointment of two new directors and two new associates.
With effect from July, Wan Yau and Herbert Lui will take on their role as directors, whilst Matthew Sturley and Jacqui Labb will join David Brockbank & Christopher Franklin as associates.
All will take an active role in the practice leadership and future direction of DMA.
Dexter Moren, founding director of DMA said "The appointment to be made part of the management team recognises the role each individual has played to date and anticipates their greater involvement in the future direction & leadership of the practice."

27.06.08 Southwark Travelodge complete
This eight story hotel creates a dynamic new presence along Union Street, the main pedestrian route from Southwark Station to Tate Modern at Bankside. The building incorporates two very different elevational languages which relate directly to the surrounding context.

01.06.08 Euston Square exceeds sustainable targets
This unique mixed use building which combines a lower level hotel and retail with upper level housing establishes a new landmark for this prominent site adjacent to Euston Rail Station.
Significantly, this project exceeds its mandated 10% on site renewable energy requirements, and is one of the first developments completed within the UK to incorporate a foundation pile integrated ground source heat exchange system.

08.05.08 Green light for £100m Trocadero hotel
Dexter Moren Associates design for a new 471 bed Ibis hotel at London’s Trocadero was given the green light last night by Westminster Council. The hotel will form a key part of the regeneration to this Piccadilly landmark and will be completed in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

DMA has been invited to lead a hotel specific workshop on sustainable design alongside The World Budget & Economy Hotel Conference on the 13th June 2008. 22.04.08 London's Housing Challenge @ NLA
Des Res is NLA's latest exhibition running from 24 April -14 June 2008. The exhibition explores the challenges facing London's housing from density to design, affordability to sustainability. Visitors will be able to seek inspiration from 150 case-studies of the capital's most recent and future residential schemes.

22.04.08 Leverstock housing scheme gets green light
Dexter Moren Associates has secured planning consent on behalf of Crest Nicholson to develop 14 contemporary apartments in Hempel Hampstead. Featuring timber panel inserts and julliete balconies, the dual aspect apartments have been designed to maximize views of the adjacent park and provide new housing stock to suit professionals, young families and first time buyers.

18.03.08 Design for iconic Carlton hotel unveiled at MIPIM
DMA unveiled its design concept for the expansion of The Carlton Intercontinental hotel during MIPIM 2008. Acting as master plan architects the designs will enhance this icon by creating flexible entertaining spaces along with new bedroom wings and a luxury spa.

17.03.08 Cycle to Cannes
On Thursday 6th March 3 representatives from DMA - Jonathan Picardo, Stuart Cross and Jacqui Labb - set off for the 'Cycle to Cannes' (C2C) ride to MIPIM. Joining 115 other riders, all professionals in property, development and architecture, the endurance event took five days to complete and covered 1500km.

12.01.08 Rediscovering the rivers and canals of the capital
DMA's Alperton Village development is currently being exhibited at the Building Centre as part of "Waterfront London". The NLA exhibition focuses on key developments recently completed, underway or in the pipeline along the various rivers and canals that make up the Blue Ribbon Network, a major feature of the London Plan.
The exhibition will also look at issues such as how we can protect and adapt the waterways for the 21st Century and ensure it continues to play a part in the growth, life and prosperity of the city.

14.12.07 ISO Certification
DMA is delighted to announce we are now ISO 9001:2000 accredited. Certification was awarded by the British Accreditation Bureau earlier this month for the delivery of architecture, urban design, interior design and creative media services. Importantly it maintains our status as a RIBA Chartered practice and signifies our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest possible standards of service and quality to our clients.

25.11.07 Mixed use scheme for Southwark secures planning
Located along the main pedestrian route from Southwark underground station to the Tate Modern, this mixed use scheme will feature a 200 bed luxury hotel alongside executive penthouse apartments. A conference centre with central hall to accommodate 1000 people, bar, restaurant and ground floor retail will also be included.

23.11.07 Five star hotel for Westminster gets green light
DMA has secured planning consent on behalf of The Splendid Hotel Group to convert 'Queen Anne’s Chambers' in London's St. James Park into a 300 bed Intercontinental hotel. The property has its facades at 22-30 Broadway, 37-45 Tothill St and 1-3 Dean Farrar St and comprises a basement, ground floor level and five upper floors. Originally built in the 19th Century as a hospital, it has more recently been used as office space with retail outlets along the ground floor.

09.09.07 Boutique hotel gets green light
DMA has secured planning consent with an unanimous committee decision for this new 25 bedroom boutique hotel in Wembley. The building is composed as a cube, featuring elements which have been pulled and split apart to create an interesting building form, as well as to allow natural light to penetrate the interior spaces. The building integrates green roofing and solar thermal panels as a renewable energy source.
30.04.06 Dexter Moren Architects new offices
The DMA team are greatly enjoying their new offices in Jamestown Road Camden, London, having benefited from improved functionality, increased floor space and a design that takes advantage of natural light across each of the three levels.
01.05.06 MIPIM 2006
This year Dexter Moren Architects and its partners in Perspective EEIG attended the International Property Show, MIPIM, as one of 10 design firms represented on the Architects Journal stand, an initiative which supports and promotes high quality design from the UK.
11.05.06 Dexter Moren Architects receives planning consent for Euston Square
Following a complex planning process with local authorities, residents and user groups, Dexter Moren Architects has been granted planning permission for a £9m mixed use development adjoining Euston Rail Station.

12.10.06 'Major opportunity sites' in Alperton to be developed
Dexter Moren Architects has received its second go ahead this year for a regeneration scheme in one of Brent City Councils “major opportunity sites” in Alperton. A third scheme along Atlip Road is also currently in planning.

03.11.06 Largest UK Travelodge under construction
Dexter Moren Architects" design for a landmark 394 bed hotel started on site in March of this year. It will become the largest Travelodge within the United Kingdom when completed in October 2007.

31.01.07 A great start to 2007
DMA is delighted to announce that planning approval has been secured for three significant hotel projects this month; the 200 bed Gatwick Marriot for Kew Green Hotels, Sutton Etap for Criterion and Capitol and the Express Holiday Inn at London Colney for Splendid Hotels.
The projects are now being taken through to detailed design.

27.03.07 A green lung for Manchester
DMA has been commissioned to design a new sustainable office scheme in the heart of Manchester’s City Centre. A key feature will be a passive stack ventilation system to bring fresh, cooling air into the building without requiring any mechanical assistance. It will also include an internal vertical atrium, roof-harvested rainwater, ground source heat exchange system and solar panelling. The project features in AJ's 08.03.07 UK Architecture/Sustainability issue.

16.05.07 On site: New Wembley Town Centre
Construction of DMA's largest project is well underway! The £50m mixed use development for St.Modwen and Rotch Property Group will regenerate and re-establish Wembley's Town Centre as a vibrant shopping and living quarter. The scheme will provide 14,000sq ft of retail and leisure, 23,000sq ft of offices, 235 residential units (85 affordable), a new public square and refurbished multi-storey car park.
28.05.07 Westminster approves bat block
The protected bat species of Regent’s Park are set to benefit from a new 7-story mixed-use development given the green light last week by the City of Westminster.

20.07.07 Norwich City Holiday Inn opens
Officially opened last week by Norwich’s Lord Mayor, Dexter Moren Architects were commissioned by Kew Green Hotels to design the interiors and replan the public spaces for this new 154 bed hotel.

07.09.07 Dexter Moren Architects on display
DMA currently have eight projects on display as part of the NLA "Away from Home" exhibition. Running from 6th September-27th October, the exhibition showcases new hotels in London across all sectors, and the market forces shaping their development. 31.01.06 Competition winning entry for Thomas Hall Estates at Exeter University
Dexter Moren Architects has won an invited design competition for a residential conference and leisure facility for the University of Exeter. The winning scheme will be set within the grounds of an eighteenth century mansion house which will be converted and integrated with the proposed new building.
